Moving Sale aka SUPER DOOPER YARD SALE!

We had one side of the garage lined with our precious "stuff" for the sale. Boxes and boxes of "stuff". We started just before 6 am on Saturday by putting tables out on the front lawn. Dad and Tyler had borrowed the tables the night before so they were all ready to be set up and then moved the bigger items from the
house to the garage. Carole was here and the Nays were here and everyone pitched in to help. It took over an hour to get stuff out of boxes and set up. The lawn was literally covered with sale stuff.  There are always the early birds and Ruth did a good job shooing them away until 7am when we had advertized the start. You know that saying "Build it and they will come"- well, they came...and came...and came!  This really was the sale to end all sales.  It was satisfying to hear people ask if we were going to have another sale (ha!) and then say that this was the way yard sales should be (meaning good prices).  We had fun giving away things to kids when they came up to pay and we told them it was a present for them and that they didn't have to pay anything.

We had the street lined with cars and until about noon there was always someone buying. Dad and Ruth had put out the neon orange signs in all the right places. And the ad on Craig's List sure helped. Dad worded it just right- moving after 40 years, thousands of items, and great prices. We had a "Free" table that attracted lots of interest. Then there were tables with items up to $10. All the furniture and big items were on the small lawn. We used the monkey bars to hang clothes on- Ruth did a good job of keeping the hangers filled.

Carole was in charge of the computer and techy stuff that she was selling. She was so smart and brought her shade awning. Savannah and Evie had a stand set up to sell cookies (macadamia nut, oatmeal, and chocolate chip) and bottled water and otter pops. They had a working agreement with Tyler who had loaned them the capital to start their enterprise. By the end of the sale, the girls were taking their cookie boxes out to the street to meet people as they got out of their cars and ask if they wanted to buy a cookie!

We felt great in selling things like the fake tree from the front room, the box full of old records, the old shade canopy that took a while to set up, and the box of Christmas wrapping paper.  We sold bags and bags of clothes. Ruth sold her bike and a bunch of clothes.  It was a very successful day- we all made a bit of cash and the garage had been cleaned out. We loaded all the remaining, unsold things into the trailer and the back of Dad's car. Not bad for how much we started with. The Mesa Crocketts had come over and everyone helped clean up. Sydney was a trooper in helping.

Here is the happy group (with Dad taking the picture)- tired, hungry, a little red from the sun. And so now you are asking "Just how successful was this sale?" Well, we (dad and I) made about $450 and Ruth and Carole also sold a bunch of their stuff.  Pretty good, wouldn't you say??? We sure appreciate all the help
we got- we couldn't have done all this alone!

Now that it is over, I can say it was amazing and even kinda fun. The weather was ideal... but I won't be ready to do another one for a while.
