Gila Valley Temple Dedication

Today we were able to go with Don, Adrianne, Miriam,
& Emma to the Gila Valley Temple Dedication. It was
broadcast to all stake centers in Arizona & we went to
the noon session. It was such a spiritual experience.
Here we are by the "picture tree" at the stake center
after the dedication.

EVERYONE Loves The Garden!

Dad looked out the window at the garden and was
surprised to see this quail burrowing in the dirt. We
are guessing that she was just taking a "dirt bath"
because after a couple minutes she got out of the
burrow & shook off the dirt. It was so much fun to
see her visit the garden that we have named her
Marilyn.

Pretty soon her husband took his protective stance
on the block wall- his name is Dan. So now we have
had Dan Quail & wife visit us. Maybe the Bush's
will be next!!!

"Night At The Museum"

Dad & I had a fun Friday night with Carole at the Phoenix
Art Museum. There was a display which was almost over of
Ansel Adams' works and we wanted to see that. One of the first
pictures he took of a man was as the mound he was standing on
collapsed and he took the picture upside down as he fell.
Amazingly, it still turned out great & we viewed it right
side up! We each picked our favorites and these were the winners-

Mount McKinley & Wonder Lake at Denali Natl. Park in Alaska- 1947.
This was a hard picture to get since it is not usually clear enough
weather. Besides being a very pretty picture, this reminded us of
Mark's mission.

This was also in the most popular vote- The Tetons & Snake
River at Grand Teton Natl. Park- 1948.

We took the time to go around the museum & check out
a couple other fun exhibits- this is the one Carole liked.
It looks like some of the glass is half-floating, and if you
look carefully, you can see Carole's reflection!

As you get off the elevator on the 2nd floor, there is this
computer generated tree that moves in the wind during
the 4 seasons. Here I am in the Springtime.

Dad liked this permanent exhibit of charcoal from a
church in Texas that lightning struck. It is called "Mass"
which could either be taken religiously or physically since
the pieces look like a more solid center & thinner at the
edges.

Before we started our tour of the museum, we got to
hear a steel drum band play in the garden area. What
a very fun night.

Cinco De Mayo! Ole!!

We celebrated by having taco salad with
guacamole & salsa topped off with frosty
mug A&W rootbeer! Yum!!! Was this in
honor of Cinco De Mayo or for Juanita's
birthday? Oops- I mean Amelia's birthday?

Dad's Great Quad Adventure

Dad went with Dennis Webster to Table Mesa, about
1/2 hour north of Phoenix so they could ride Dennis'
quads for about 18 miles in the desert.

Along the way they found this FJ Toyota that had been
rolled & had the airbags & windshield blown out. Dad
had a great morning & probably will do this again.

Beginning of Our Garden

This is the beginning of our garden journal. After
tasting the yummy yellow cherry tomatoes at Costco,
dad wanted to have a couple plants for the patio & we
picked up these two at Costco. We put them by the
tether ball pole so you can get an idea of how big they
were.

However, after having them grow quite quickly &
even outgrow their pots, dad rototilled the garden,
pulled out weeds & grass, added mulch, and THEN
we got to put in our plants! We are having a little
competition on getting the biggest plant (and maybe
who has the first tomato)! We figured we might as
well put in some zucchini, yellow squash, cucumbers,
and even an actual yellow cherry tomato of our own
along with the regular tomatoes!
Here are the proud gardeners!
