Another Week and the House Progresses!

This was the week of shelves, doors, and molding! Boy, things are lookin' good!!!
Here are the shelves in the wash room and shelves also were installed in the
closets.

Doors were hung in the rooms and the closets and texturing done and
sanded so it is ready to paint.

And the wider mop boards were put in.

And the front door was installed. Nice door BUT...where's the special glass panel???? Oops- this one will be traded for the fancy one we picked out.  Maybe the next set of pictures will have it.

Thursday Was the BIG Day!!! Moving Day!!!!

Dad had arranged for help moving the big furniture for Thursday night.  After
days of packing and then taking many, many loads to the apartment, we were
ready...kind of.  We had help from some ward friends and missionaries.

We love the choice of apartments that Ruth and Tyler made-our new home for three months. The arcadia door is the patio to the apartment and the front door is next to the window on the right. The window is into the bedroom.

So...come on in and have a short tour!  Welcome to apartment 1125!!!

Here's the main living area- familiar looking furniture in a new place!

The kitchen is at the other end of the living area and the door to the right is our bedroom and bath.

Here's the kitchen.

And the eating area to the left of the kitchen.

Our bedroom.

My computer and workspace is in our bedroom.

And dad shares his computer space with some furniture storage.
Another chapter in our exciting year!!!

And I am STILL the Bubblegum Grandma!!!!

Moving Sale aka SUPER DOOPER YARD SALE!

We had one side of the garage lined with our precious "stuff" for the sale. Boxes and boxes of "stuff". We started just before 6 am on Saturday by putting tables out on the front lawn. Dad and Tyler had borrowed the tables the night before so they were all ready to be set up and then moved the bigger items from the
house to the garage. Carole was here and the Nays were here and everyone pitched in to help. It took over an hour to get stuff out of boxes and set up. The lawn was literally covered with sale stuff.  There are always the early birds and Ruth did a good job shooing them away until 7am when we had advertized the start. You know that saying "Build it and they will come"- well, they came...and came...and came!  This really was the sale to end all sales.  It was satisfying to hear people ask if we were going to have another sale (ha!) and then say that this was the way yard sales should be (meaning good prices).  We had fun giving away things to kids when they came up to pay and we told them it was a present for them and that they didn't have to pay anything.

We had the street lined with cars and until about noon there was always someone buying. Dad and Ruth had put out the neon orange signs in all the right places. And the ad on Craig's List sure helped. Dad worded it just right- moving after 40 years, thousands of items, and great prices. We had a "Free" table that attracted lots of interest. Then there were tables with items up to $10. All the furniture and big items were on the small lawn. We used the monkey bars to hang clothes on- Ruth did a good job of keeping the hangers filled.

Carole was in charge of the computer and techy stuff that she was selling. She was so smart and brought her shade awning. Savannah and Evie had a stand set up to sell cookies (macadamia nut, oatmeal, and chocolate chip) and bottled water and otter pops. They had a working agreement with Tyler who had loaned them the capital to start their enterprise. By the end of the sale, the girls were taking their cookie boxes out to the street to meet people as they got out of their cars and ask if they wanted to buy a cookie!

We felt great in selling things like the fake tree from the front room, the box full of old records, the old shade canopy that took a while to set up, and the box of Christmas wrapping paper.  We sold bags and bags of clothes. Ruth sold her bike and a bunch of clothes.  It was a very successful day- we all made a bit of cash and the garage had been cleaned out. We loaded all the remaining, unsold things into the trailer and the back of Dad's car. Not bad for how much we started with. The Mesa Crocketts had come over and everyone helped clean up. Sydney was a trooper in helping.

Here is the happy group (with Dad taking the picture)- tired, hungry, a little red from the sun. And so now you are asking "Just how successful was this sale?" Well, we (dad and I) made about $450 and Ruth and Carole also sold a bunch of their stuff.  Pretty good, wouldn't you say??? We sure appreciate all the help
we got- we couldn't have done all this alone!

Another Week's Progress On the House

We stopped by the house at the beginning of the week and saw a huge pile of sand. And a few blocks.

During the week the inside of the house got taped...a couple times.

And on Saturday we found the pile of sand was gone, plastic covered the
windows and the house was stuccoed!  Getting exciting!!!   (I am not
sure exactly where the block disappeared to.)

Dress Up!!!

These girls sure like to have costumes and dress up. Savannah went to school like Cat-in-the-Hat. The hat was courtesy of Ruth & her imagination.

Evie decided that she wanted to dress like a princess- this was as she was
enjoying a blue ring sucker.  No one realized that the blue would be sooo
colorful!

Evie checked out the color in the bathroom mirror.

Brenley had get in the act also- cute "Davey Crockett hat"!

And then Brenley put on the doggie costume- pretty darn cute.

BUT...
Evie was the WINNER with the Cat Woman Costume.  The blue lips
complete the outfit!!!  She has learned poses from Savannah- just put
your shoulder forward a little with attitude!

Was It Locusts???

Well, it looked like the locusts had come down from Utah and cleaned out
our food storage room! I haven't seen shelves so bare since they were built
almost 40 years ago!!!  This was the result of a couple weeks work sorting
out some storage for us to keep and then to give a bunch away.  We just
don't need over 2000 pounds of wheat for the two of us and it was great
to give some to family and some to ward members who were working on
their storage.

The prize though went to the Weavers who took the 55 gallon drum that was
full of sugar.  Dad said that it was over 300 pounds, but it may be closer to
400 pounds of sugar.  That's a LOT of sugar!!!  Or as Shawn Weaver put
it, "It's a diabetes barrel".

A Week Later...

A lot of work has been done this past week. The block wall on the west side was put in.

It is pretty cool that they put the house number on and then stucco around it.

The insulation was put in. This is the garage- since it will be dad's "workshop", he
wanted it to be as COOL as possible.

Next, the sheetrock was delivered- several stacks of it!

There were about 6 guys all working as hard and as fast as they could.

At the end of the day, the entire house had sheetrock up!  This view is from
the great room toward the kitchen.  The doorway is to the front door, the
door on the right is to the garage.

Hidden TREASURE!!!

With all this packing and moving things, we moved the couch from the front room over to the apartment. It is that "vintage" one that matches with the antiques. Well, in moving it, I found some treasures! First, I found some Monopoly hotels.

Then I found an old checkers piece down in the side of the
couch.  Not bad so far.

Then a marble was along the back of the couch.

Then I moved over to the right side of the couch and my hand found
something hard and flat and round and I wondered what in the world
is this?  Well, I pulled out a...

SILVER DOLLAR!!!  It is an Eisenhower one from 1974!!!  I know this
is not nearly as exciting as Rachel's find in the dresser, but it was still pretty
fun.

Rainy Week in Phoenix

It has been such a rainy week here that not a lot was done on the outside of the house.
But they did get the shingles up on the roof all ready to be done, probably Monday,
and the 2 houses ahead of ours have been shingled so we are next in line.

They also dropped off the block for the fence and poured the foundation on that.  I do think it is fun that when a part of the outside is done (and done correctly), a little spray paint message is left!

Another Step Forward

Thursday afternoon we visited the house to find that the roof was ready to be shingled! Another big step!  The house was also wired for internet and tv and the electric partly done.

Look at that pile of shingles!!!  There are 2 houses waiting to be roofed
before us though- we may have a wait.

On Friday the trench was dug to hook electrical wires to the main
part in the front- a huge pile of dirt is in front of the house now.

And the electrical is done in the house!

It looks like a lot of spaghetti!!!
